The Bread Project:
V gave E. a “plastic” bag, to store bread and keep it fresh. The bag, produced in Austria, is not made with oil but of plant material, and decomposes easily; it can be re-used several times. The bag can be printed on. The producer is www.naku.at.We discussed the logo and design for linen bags for sale along with the bread.
We also spoke about the support we want to give the Escola de S..
We shall propose to their Team to create a blog for them, based on the text that we developed after the July meeting with them. U is going to send the approved content to Do. to look at. E.has photos; we need those for a blog. U will ask Ma. for their bank details so we can perhaps also add a PayPal donation button.
We also spoke about fundraising and how to go about it
Do. said the most important issue for fundraising is to answer the questions on what the project is and what they need. The fundraisers also need to propose adequate gifts as thank you for the donations received, e.g.
- a postcard with children’s paintings for a donation of 5€,
- for 10€ a donor would get a mug,
- and for 25€ he would get a yearbook,
- for higher amounts he would receive a mention of his name as sponsor on a (movable) plaque in the school.
An ongoing fundraising effort would be better that an occasional action, with the receipt of money from time to time.
“Teaching” support
There we have many options. S.used to go to her children’s school and read a poem which would inspire the children to make a drawing/painting about the topic, S. then gave assisted them in this. Such visits can lead to the composition of a yearbook, also as Thank You to donors.

Visit to the Municipal Fire Station in Funchal

The group went to visit the local Municipal Fire Station in Funchal to the North of Dolce Vita.
This was a very interesting visit. Chief Samuel, one of the shift leaders with many years of experience, showed us the station and the cars and gave us honest answers to a lot of prickly questions.
The highlights:
The team has 137 staff (it should have 140)
26 persons are always on call on 12 hour shifts.
The response time is very quick, especially if you do not call 112 (officially what you have to do) but directly to them (291 200930).
The city is divided into two parts:
West: Municipal Bombeiros,
East: Voluntary Bombeiros, but if there is a fire in the Zone Velha or around the Cathedral, both units always respond.
The staff have a gym, a canteen (most bring their own food) , a multi-purpose room with internet and sleeping quarters.
A regular fireman/woman earns around 600-700€ month, a Chief around 1100€ (they say, brut, less taxes…)
Nothing much may happen in a shift but they have to be alert. Tension is palpable in the building and the courtyard.
The equipment:
There is never enough money around to have the best equipment and maintenance but this is a complaint every Fire Station in the world voices. The FNC Volunteers have worse equipment, though.
A lot of equipment is bought from Germany. The base of the cars may be coming from Mercedes but the top is built by a Portuguese company, Jacinto. They are very good at custom building fire equipment and sell their fire engines all over Europe. (Land Rovers are not the favourite Fireman car, they are being replaced over time.)
There are smaller cars to check out a situation – the Fire Chief has always to be there first.
They have one car to free people trapped in cars – this is the worst job they have to do
Ladder cars:
We have the biggest ladder in Portugal (55m) this is the second biggest ladder in Europe. Think of hotels like Pestana Carlton…
There are regular Fire Trainings in the hotels for the firemen by the Fire Departments. These trainings serve also to check the pipes and hydrants. All hotels have to have an internal “first response” Fire Team.
Water tanks:
All cars have water tanks of various sizes, the biggest contains 32000 l water (all hydrant water is fresh water)
They also come with foam which is very effective but expensive. The Station has a tank of 1000 l foam.
The pipes are surprisingly slim; water pumps can be taken out by hand to be placed where they can be connected to external water supplies.
The Station also has a training tower to train for high-rise fires. The staff has lot of training sessions to keep them in shape and respond to new situations or regulation.
Ambulances:
They have ambulances just for emergencies; the Volunteers and other services (Red Cross) take care of non-urgent transports. In the time we were there, the ambulances moved out twice. – no fire alarms.
E., with his dire experience in Monte last year, spoke about the shortcomings during the situation (hydrants blocked, lagoon water not used, no help from the fire department) Chief Samuel acknowledged this.
Chief Samuel confirmed that there was an order to save the Monte Church – nowadays; such an order could not be imposed on the Firemen anymore.
On February 20, 2010, contrary to the rumours, only 42 persons died, and nobody drowned in the underground parking garages.
The Fire Department has its own water gauge in the mountains so that they know when a flood can be expected downtown.
In Dolce Vita, the order was to evacuate the parking, and people tried to take out their cars but the “guards” wouldn’t open the gates without payment so more cars were rendered unusable

We spoke about the offer by MB for 1-3 ha of Menta and Melissa; J will let us know until the end of January if he wants to take it up, maybe in co-operation with the Padre The client would provide the plants and set the standard to be met.
J and M have around 1 ha of land available, we shall need more land to take up the offer and make this work. V already did some research on the plants and the conditions they need. R says he can extend the land use by applying micro-organisms.
MB is one of the biggest International wholesalers in Europe; if we can deliver great quality to them, we could sell them many other products later!
We also spoke about the water kefir E has available for all who are interested. It is very healthy, better than milk kefir – see part of his text included:

Olá equipe,
Tivemos uma discussão muito interessante sobre o papel que o governo deve desempenhar na vida pública. (U vai ter uma discussão sobre o mesmo assunto com Contraditório no domingo à noite. )
O obstáculo parece ser em qualquer estado e especialmente em Portugal que os cidadãos não obedecem às regras e que, portanto, mais controle e regulamentações governamentais são necessários.
Alguns argumentos:
G acha que mais controle é necessária para fazer os cidadãos seguir as regras – o outro lado da moeda: nos EUA, muitas pessoas estão na prisão, mesmo para pequenos delitos, e isso não ajuda. Os japoneses, por exemplo, têm muito mais disciplina, é é normal para eles seguirem as regras – menos regras e controle é necessário. Singapura tem muitas regras e é em muito boa forma.
Os cidadãos que denunciam o mau comportamento de outros, são “whistleblowers” (neste momento, uma palavra carregada positivamente) ou bufos?
E pensa que é falta de educação. Mais tarde, na discussão, cristalizado que ele significa a educação cívica e a necessidade de os cidadãos a compreender que o comportamento cívico é do seu interesse pessoal. É uma questão de mentalidade.
U pensa as pessoas ficam indiferentes ao mau comportamento hoje em dia; como por exemplo, bater na esposa, é aceite como “normal” .
E apontou que a Democracia é uma ferramenta, pode ser usado pelo bom ou pelo mal, não tem nada a ver com a moral. A lei pode ser o óleo para facilitar o funcionamento da máquina. Em Portugal, os juízes perderam o senso de dever, e os julgamentos estão tomando muito tempo.
G disse que bons advogados só defendem os ricos, os pobres acabam com uma má defesa.
U disse que o Português é muito respeitoso – um toque agradável – mas, por outro lado, não são avessos ao confronto. Um juiz deve confrontar as pessoas. O Português sempre obedece a autoridade, e se uma pessoa fazer algo errado, a família apoia-lo de qualquer maneira.
E contou a história sobre a forma como o estado Português desarrumou as regras para o uso das rotundas (formulário importado do Reino Unido, primeiro com movimentação da mão esquerda, depois com torcer regras de direito de ida). Tais erros pelo governo são comum.
D propus do Provedor de Justiça (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ombudsman), um mediador para os cidadãos que tem acesso a administradores públicos e está legalmente habilitado a fazê-los lidar com o problema de um cidadão.
U acha que a questão do governo não deve ser vista emocional, ele precisa de uma ferramenta para discernir as partes da vida cívica que precisam de ação governamental, a partir das partes onde o governo deve ficar fora.

D: Os políticos são vulneráveis a popularidade, este torce suas decisões em outras direções do que o que eles decidiriam de boa fé.
D falou sobre a escola Outward Bound (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outward_Bound) ele fez parte por um tempo enquanto jovem, uma espécie de ano social (ou dois) em que os jovens são enviados para trabalhar em projetos sociais e aprender ética cívica que talvez não poderiam ter chegado na escola ou dos pais. A vantagem: com a idade de 15-19 anos, tenham idade suficiente para ser retirado do contexto familiar, e eles ainda podem ser formadas a ser melhores cidadãos.
U: Os documentos do Governo devem sempre ser breve e fácil de entender, deve ser proibido ao Governo a fazer as coisas difíceis de entender. Outras medidas: contra a corrupção: girar os administradores e funcionários em uma base regular dentro dos distritos, ou fazer solicitações dos cidadãos anónimos para os funcionários (obstáculo : tudo está ligado ao número NIF).

Teremos o nosso Jantar de Natal em 12 de dezembro. Depois disso, nós temos uma pausa, nós reiniciamos nossas reuniões em 09 de janeiro com ToBinG.

O Manual de Proteção contra Incêndios: haverá outra reunião, desta vez com AS, para discutir quando queremos as publicações. Uma vez que isto é clara, eles vão receber a solução híbrida para publicação. Isto irá aumentar a nossa visibilidade para o público.
DV : E vai falar com uma pessoa da família B, para ver se eles estão interessados em tudo em investir em uma nova atração turística para a ilha.
A compostagem doméstica: R deu a U uma balde Bokazi (informações: www.bokazi.com.au) e micro-organismos. O balde está na varanda e – muito importante – não cheira. A primeira fase de compostagem tem lugar no balde, o resultado solidificada tem de ser enterrada, que, em seguida, transforma-se em terra. O Bokazi também produz fertilizante líquido para plantas.

Hello Team,
We had an interesting discussion of the role the Government should play in public life (U will have a discussion about the same subject with Contraditório on Sunday evening.)
The obstacle seems to be in any state and especially in Portugal that citizens do not obey the rules and that therefore, more Government control and regulations are needed.
Some arguments:
G thinks more tough love is needed to make citizens follow the rules – the other side of the coin: in the USA, may people are in jail, even for petty crimes, and it doesn’t help. The Japanese, for example, have much more discipline, is is normal for them to follow rules – less rules and control is needed. Singapore is though and in very good shape.
Are citizens who denounce another’s misbehaviour, whistleblowers (at this time, a positively charged word) or snitches?
E thinks it is lack of education. Later in the discussion, it cristallized that he means civic education and the need for citizens to understand that civic behavior is in their personal interest. It is a question of mentality.
U thinks people get indifferent to misbehavior, bad things, such as wife-beating,are accepted as “normal”.
E pointed out that Democracy is a tool, it can be used in good and in bad ways, it has nothing to do with morals. The law can be the oil to make the machine function. In Portugal, the judges have lost their sense of duty, and trials are taking far too long.
G said that good lawyers only defend the rich, poor people end up with a bad defense.
U said that the Portuguese are very respectful – a nice touch – but on the other side, there are averse to confrontation. A Judge must confront people. The Portuguese bow to authority, and if they do something wrong, the family supports them anyway.
E told the story about the way the Portuguese messed up the rules for the use of the roundabouts (imported from the UK, first with left hand drive, then with wring right-of-way rules).Such cock-ups by the Government are common.
D proposed the Ombudsman (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ombudsman), a mediator for citizens who has access to public administrators and is legally empowered to make them tackle a citizen’s problem.
U thinks that the question of government should not be seen emotionally, it needs a tool to discern the parts of civic life that need Government action, from the parts where Government should stay out. D: Politicians are vulnerable to popularity, this twists their decisions in other directions than what they would decide in good faith.
D spoke about the Outward Bound school (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outward_Bound) he went to, a kind of social year (or two) where young people are sent to work in social projects and learn civic ethics they might not have gotten in school or from their parents. The advantage: at the age of 15-19, they are old enough to be taken out of the family context, and they can still be formed to be better citizens.
U: Government Documents should always be brief and easy to understand, it should be forbidden to the Government to make issues difficult to understand. Other measures:against corruption: rotate the administrators and clerks on a regular basis within districts, or make the citizens’ requests anonymous to the clerks (obstacle: everything is connected to the NIF number)

U presented our Hybrid solution (purchase of a house without mortgage) in the IGNITE Meeting on Nov 16. It was taken up well but no feedback yet. It will be better to make it known via the Diario. EuroFINESCO is prepared to lend assistance to Madeiran companies who wish to turn it into a product. Enclosed is the report from the Jornal, the Diario didn’t send anybody
The Fire Protection and Combat Manual; there will be another meeting, this time with AS, to discuss when we want the publications. Once this is clear, they will get the Hybrid solution for publication. This will increase our visibility to the public.
DV: E will speak to a person in the B Family to see if they are interested at all in investing in a new tourist attraction for the island.
Home composting: R gave U a Bokazi bucket (info on www.bokazi.com.au) and micro-organisms. The bucket is on the balcony and – very important – doesn’t smell. The first stage of composting takes place in the bucket, the solidified result has to be buried, it then turns into earth. The bucket also yields liquid fertilizer for plants.

Olá equipe,
tivemos uma reunião agradável com Di., falámos sobre o seus morangos, framboesas e a plantação de Proteia. Ela deveria ter uma colheita no próximo ano.
MB: Ursula enviou as amostras (Melissa, Menta, Macela) que V organizou ao contato no MBpara análise no laboratório. Vamos ver o que eles dizem sobre a qualidade – temos de manter os dedos cruzados!
Alguém tem Valeriana? V disse que não crescem bem em Madeira, a parte mais importante é a raiz, e dela não cresceu muito bem. O cliente alemão do U está interessada nele.
Sra. T terá uma reunião com o cliente para a Cavalinha na próxima semana, então eles vão oferecer um contrato para N, para plantar ao menos dois campos de teste.
Outros assuntos:
Nós não temos nenhuma notícia ainda do Diario, quando e como eles vão publicar o Manual contra Incêndios. Após a publicação U vai falar com ECM para ver se eles iriam patrocinar a impressão de folhetos para distribuição.

we had an nice meeting with Di, and spoke about her strawberry, raspberry and Proteia plantation. She should have a harvest next year.
MB: U sent the samples (Melissa, Menta, Macela) that V organised, to the contact in MB for analysis in the lab. We shall see what they say about the quality – keep your fingers crossed!
Does anybody have Valeriana? V said that is does not grow well in Madeira, the important part is the root, and hers didn’t take very well. U‘s German client is interested in it.
Mrs. T will have a meeting with the Cavalinha client next week, then they will offer a contract to N for at least two test fields.
Other stuff:
We have no news yet from the Diario when and how they will publish the Fire Protection and Combat Manual. After publication U will speak to ECM to see if they would sponsor the printing of leaflets for distribution.

Nós tivemos uma discussão animada sobre o risco de incêndio e as experiências que os nossos membros tiveram com isso. Esta foi uma reunião em que as palavras “problema” e “Governo” não poderiam ser evitados …
Falamos sobre os recentes incêndios e como prevenir e combater os.
E disse que os bombeiros chamados a Monte disseram à população para combater o fogo a si mesmos, sem pôr em risco as suas vidas … E estava muito abalada por sua experiência, ele tive de salvar a sua e a casa abandonada do vizinho. Ele também estava chocado que alguns dos bombeiros chamados de outros distritos tiveram de pedir a população “Onde estamos?”, e para onde ir, porque eles não estão familiarizados com Monte / Fanal.
D falou com o secretário de Agricultura sobre isso em uma reunião e mais uma vez fez todo o grupo desconfortável ao falar abertamente sobre as deficiências que ele vê quando se trata de prevenção de incêndios e combate.
Aqui estão alguns pontos: (a lista completa será desenvolvido por U, com base em informações E obteve de outra fonte nos EUA):
É óbvio que a população não tem ideia do que fazer em tal caso. Como os incêndios eram recentes e viva na memória da população, queremos desenvolver um manual para apresentar à população (por exemplo, em um local de encontro público em Monte), de modo que as pessoas podem tomar-se medidas quando os bombeiros não podem ajudar (como foi o caso em Monte).
O Governo deve fazer uma lei e adotar uma medida brasileira (há um esquema semelhante na Alemanha), lá as casas são controladas uma vez por ano, para obter um passe “hábito”. Um bombeiro irá inspecionar todos os detalhes da casa para certificar de que não representa um risco de incêndio ou um alvo fácil para o fogo (eles poderiam verificar contra reprodutores dos mosquitos ao mesmo tempo). Na Alemanha, este teste tem que ser pago pelo dono da casa.
O Governo deve fazer uma lei que tem o direito de assumir e leiloar casas abandonadas, a fim de evitar incêndios e riscos de mosquito.
Cada Sitio deve ter um depósito público de água com boca, com medidas de prevenção de incêndios, acessíveis à população.
O governo deve oferecer cursos de prevenção de incêndios pelos bombeiros para os donos da casa, semelhante como para o primeiro socorro. Os cursos devem ser gratuitos, talvez obrigatório para os donos das casas.
Auto-suficiência: Se o Governo não limpar a terra, você faz!
Isso precisa ser mais desenvolvido, U irá tentar apresentar uma minuta de um folheto na reunião Agricultura na próxima semana. Os membros ToBinG também são convidados a vir, para dar o seu contributo!

Valor Ambiente “- Meia Serra – está levando a CMF a tribunal porque eles estão quebrando um contrato de 20 anos para ter seus resíduos domésticos queimados na Meia Serra. Meia Serra quer 88 € por tonelada, e a nova empresa de Jan Madeira Waste Energy” tem cerca de um terço do custo. Isso vai ser interessante …

We had an animated discussion about the fire hazard and the experiences our members had with it. This was a meeting where the word “problem” and “Government” could not be avoided…
We spoke about the recent fires and how to prevent and combat them.
The firemen called to Monte told the population to combat the fire themselves, without endangering their lives… E was very shaken by his experience, he saved his and the neighbor’s abandoned house himself. He was also shocked that some of the firemen called in from other districts had to ask the population “Where are we?”, and where to do go, because they are not familiar with Monte/Fanal.
D spoke to the Secretary of Agriculture about this at a meeting and once again made the whole bunch uncomfortable by speaking frankly about the shortcomings he sees when it comes to fire prevention and combat.
Here are a few points: (a complete checklist will be developed by U, based on info E obtained from another source in the US)
It is obvious that the population has no clue what to do in such a case. As the fires were recent and vivid in their memory, we want to develop a manual to present to the population (for instance in a public meeting place in Monte) so that persons can take measures themselves if the firemen cannot help (as was the case in Monte).
The Government should make a law and adopt a Brazilian measure (there is a similar scheme in Germany), the houses there are inspected once a year to get a “habit” pass. A fireman will inspect all details of the house to make sure that is does not pose a fire hazard or an easy target for a fire (they could check against mosquitos breeding grounds at the same time). In Germany, this test has to be paid for by the house owners.
The Government should make a law that it has the right to take over and auction off abandoned houses, in order to prevent fires and mosquito hazards.
Every Sitio should have a public water depot with hydrant, with fire prevention measures, accessible to the population.
The Government should offer fire prevention courses by firemen for house owners, just like for First Aid. The courses should be free of charge, perhaps mandatory for house owners.
Self-reliance: If the Government does not clear the land, YOU do it!
This needs to be developed further, U will try to present a draft of a leaflet in the Agriculture meeting next week. The ToBinG members are also invited to come, to give their input!
Other issues:
Valor Ambiente” – Meia Serra – is taking the CMF to court because they are breaking a 20 year contract to have their household waste burnt in Meia Serra. Meia Serra wants 88€ per ton, and Jan`s enterprise “Madeira Waste Energy” has about a third of the cost. This will be interesting…

38 reunião Madeira Consórcio (Agricultura) 15.8.2013 English version below
Tivemos uma breve reunião – muitos membros usavam o feriado para ir para aos campos cedo – e D & P tinham que voltar até a quinta deles para cuidar de fogos. Lá há fumaça no horizonte quase todos os dias (U estava lá em cima por um alguns dias, o lugar é muito bonito e calmo e ideal para umas férias relaxantes)
Temos um novo membro!
V nos trouxe St., ele cresceu na África do Sul e começa seu curso agrícola na universidade agora.
Como já escrito no lembrete para a reunião, U precisa de uma lista de todos os membros (alguns já deveriam ter essa lista pelo si próprio) com os seguintes detalhes:
Tamanho da terra
Altitude
Capacidade de água
Quantidade de luz do sol / em que momento do dia
Situação do vento
Com isso, vai ser mais fácil de determinar quem pode receber as plantações de teste para a Cavalinha. e / ou de outras plantas para o cliente.
G está preocupado com a Cavalinha, se for Equisetum arvense (usado para sílica), é invasivo e difícil de erradicar. U irá pedir um esclarecimento do cliente.
V disse que não é fácil de ser cultivado.
E deu algumas sementes de Brasil ao D para entregar ao N: “Bardana” (Burdock, Arctium lapa), que cresce muito bem no lugar do E.
St. irá manter alguns de seus grãos de café por D de experimentar a sua própria marca, wow!
D e E discutiram o melhor fermento e as condições para fazer uma boa cidra. D está em processo de criação do segundo lote este ano, o primeiro lote do ano passado continha muito ácido.
E está à procura de um agricultor orgânico para configurar 3 x 30 m2 de grãos para ele: ele precisa de centeio, cevada e Kamut para o seu pão.

We had a short meeting – many members used the feriado to go to the fields early – and D & P had to go up to their farm to watch out for fires, there is smoke on the horizon almost every day (U was up there for a few days, their place is really beautiful and calm and ideal for a relaxing holiday)

V brought us St, he grew up in South Africa and starts his agricultural course at the university now.
U needs a list from each member (all members ought to have such a list anyway) with the following details:
Size of land
Altitude
Water capacity
Amount of sunshine / at what time of the day
Wind situation
With this, it will be easier to determine who can receive the test plantations for the Cavalinha and/or other plants for the German client
G is worried about the Cavalinha, if it is Equisetum arvense (used for silica), it is invasive and difficult to eradicate. U will ask the client. V said it is not easy to be farmed.
E gave D some “Bardana” (Burdock, Arctium lapa) seeds from Brasil for N; it grows very well in E`s place.
U contacted another resident, he has land in Ribeira Brava but only 800 m2, for further reference if we need unused land for the test plantations
St. will keep some of his coffee beans for D to experiment for his own brand, wow!
D and E discussed the best yeast and conditions to make good cider. D is in the process of setting up the second batch this year, the first year`s batch contained too much acid.
E is looking for an organic farmer to set up 3 x 30 m2 of grains for him: he needs rye, barley and Kamut for his bread.

Olá equipe, foi outra noite agradável no La Pasta, com discussões interessantes!
Os Wwoofers de D se juntavam a nós mais tarde, uma menina da Suécia e um menino de Espanha, ambos muito agradável e fluente em todos os tipos de línguas (H, o filho do E. e da G. também veio, um jovem muito inteligente)
Falamos sobre o evento de Ignite Portugal, este foi muito bem organizado por pessoas do Continente (contato na ilha: Carlos Lopez do CEIM), cerca de 120-150 pessoas atenderam, todos muito entusiasmados. Foi filmado, por isso pode aparecer em YouTube.
U apresentou o Consorcio lá, e duas pessoas pediram para se juntar; U irá entrevistá-los primeiro.
Sistema solar auto-consumo: D ainda não consegue dar nos números de poupanca porque ele ainda está afinar o sistema.
Os consumidores geralmente têm a escolha entre “em Grid” (vender a electricidade produzido a Casa da Luz) e “off Grid” (auto-serviço independente), mas também existem conversores “híbridos” que permitem a ambos, assim quando o solar produz electricidade em excesso, a sistema pode fazer o relógio andar para trás, economizando dinheiro também. D vai comprar um desses conversores.
O inversor deve ser programado para não permitir o carregamento completo com rede elétrica durante a noite, porque então a energia solar a partir do dia seguinte não pode ser armazenada nas baterias e está perdido. It `s learning by doing!
Também falavamos sobre os geradores a diesel e a eletricidade micro-hydro, o sistema que o D quer. Neste fim de semana, N e J do grupo de Agricultura iram ajudá-lo a configurá-lo, eles já têm esses sistemas.
A cesta vai de carpinteiro E ao Sr M breve, podemos ter o nosso protótipo pronto antes do final do verão.
D verificou o papel da U sobre a solução híbrida, que permite a transferência de uma propriedade de um vendedor a um comprador sem uma hipoteca e um banco, (ver em anexo, em Inglês até agora).
U irá entregá-lo ao Contraditório a ser publicado no Outono.
Discutimos ia déia do E de um banco de tempo, e como os membros já foram informados, agora há a possibilidade de instalar um software on-line in-the-cloud de grátis para criar um banco de tempo. A questão é como e se os madeirenses (e que grupo da população) estariam dispostos a usar o sistema. Discutimos também outras formas de pagamento livre de imposto. Isso precisa ser discutido mais.
Um pouco de networking que funcionou: U estava procurando por uma pessoa / casal para ocupar um T1 em seu prédio contra limpeza e jardinagem, e E refereu um casal jovem de alunos que já estão tomando o emprego e o apartamento.
Nós vamos ter uma visita guiada ao Teatro no dia 25 de julho, encontro na bilheteria (nenhuma outra reunião naquele dia)

Hello Team,
It was another nice evening in La Pasta, with interesting discussions!
D`s Wwoofers joined us afterwards, a girl from Sweden and a boy from Spain, both very nice and fluent in all kinds of languages (H, E´s and G`s son also came, a very intelligent youngster)
We spoke about the IGNITE Portugal event, this was very well organized by people from the Continent , about 120 – 150 persons, all very enthusiastic, showed up. It was filmed so might show up in YouTube.
U presented the Consorcio there, and two persons have asked to join; U will interview them first.
D didn`t give us figures on the savings with his “autoconsumo”system yet because he is still tweaking the system.
Consumers usually have the choice between “on Grid” (sell to the Casa da Luz) and “off Grid” (independent self service), but there are also “hybrid” inverters which allow for both, so when the solar produces excess, a private household can make the clock go backwards, thereby saving money as well. D is going to get one of these inverters.
The inverter must be programmed to not allow full charging with Grid electricity at night because then the solar energy from the following day cannot be stored in the batteries and is lost. It`s learning by doing!
We also spoke about diesel generators and the micro-hydro electricity system D wants, this weekend, N and J from the Agriculture group will help him set it up, they have such systems already.
The basket is going from carpenter to the wickerwork-guy soon, we may get our prototype ready before the end of the Summer.
D checked U`s paper on the Hybrid solution, which allows the transfer of a property from a seller to a buyer without a mortgage and a bank.
U will hand it in to Contraditório to be published in the Autumn.
We discussed E`s idea of a time bank, and as the members already were informed, there is not the possibility to install online an in-the-cloud free software to set up a Time Bank etc. The question is how and if the Madeirans ( and which group of the population) would be willing to use the system. We also discussed other forms of tax-free forms of payments . This needs to be discussed further.
A bit of networking that worked out well: U was looking for a person/couple to occupy a T1 in her building against cleaning & gardening, and E referred a nice young couple of students who are now taking the job and the apartment.

Olá equipe,
fomos ao “La Pasta” pela primeira vez, e nós decidimos que é um bom ponto de encontro para o Grupo ToBinG no verão (estacionamento na Rua dos Tanoeiros é gratuito), e tivemos um pequeno jantar depois. A pizza é muito bom!
D está em contato com o Carpenter E, que deve terminar o suporte para o alto do cesto . U é atrás o número de telefone de uma empresa que, aparentemente, comprou algumas cestas de praia do exterior e é alugá-los, mas por preços muito elevados. Queremos saber mais.
Produtos de açúcar: U está em contato com S., seu gerente de Marketing está de férias, depois de meados de julho, podemos contactá-los novamente e ver se eles iriam produzir os produtos com açúcar da Madeira .
Um Sr. J está oferecendo passeios da cidade com um guia (não do tipo que as pessoas alugam um dispositivo de áudio e vêm sozinho, parece que temos isso agora também), mas muito caro, e não com um site profissional. U deve receber um telefonema dele, para se encontrar com ele e ajudá-lo a configurá-lo melhor.
D está recebendo dois Wwoofers, trabalhadores estudantes que estão vindo para trabalhar em sua fazenda orgânica para cama e mesa. Isso também pode ser interessante para outros membros: http://www.wwoof.com.au/
Tivemos uma grande discussão sobre a maneira como nós queremos ir em frente com o nosso trabalho.
Alguns membros sentem que precisam de mais exposição, não para nos mostrar, mas para conscientizar as pessoas de que podemos fornecer soluções. Uma forma seria a participar do próximo “Ignite Portugal” no dia 12 de julho na UMA (colégio Jesuitas), e para dar informações sobre o nosso grupo, mencionando o nosso blog e grupo no Facebook. U irá pesquisar este mais sobre Ignite.
Também poderia se tornar um grupo de lobby para se reunir com pessoas do governo, outras organizações e jornais. Nós poderíamos ser um catalisador, uma força de mudança na ilha. Essa idéia ainda é confusa, ela precisa ser discutida.
D estava na feira de gado e encontrou o vice-ministro da Agricultura. Ao contrário do que fazem os madeirenses, D disse-lhe (em Inglês, então eles precisam se concentrar e ouvir melhor) para reconhecer as pessoas como C, que foi embora, tem-se um grau, voltou e abriu um negócio aqui, agregando valor para a ilha, sem obter muito apoio do Governo. Os caras do governo foram bastante surpreso com isso.
U propôs uma descrição do trabalho de D como “pessoa dor no pescoço”, falando para os outros, como os madeirenses não se manifestam contra à autoridade, falam sobre as suas queixas apenas uns aos outros.
As pessoas ainda não encontraram uma maneira de expressar o seu descontentamento: vuvuzelas, apitos, atirando tomates …
Outro exemplo: funcionários que perderam seus empregos e sabem que o chefe investiu o dinheiro em um restaurante, têm medo de se organizar uma manifestação registrada em frente ao restaurante, embora isso iria criar pressão para o patrão a pagar-lhes os salários atrasados.
Há uma disposição da Constituição em algum lugar que os cidadãos possam formar comissões para exigir um relatório a partir de qualquer agência do governo sobre qualquer assunto, e da Agência é obrigado pela Constituição a responder.
Agricultura:
Falamos sobre os comentários de U (falaremos mais na próxima semana) e que podemos criar um efeito de ondulação, incluindo outros agricultores que podem adicionar suas terras, uma vez que temos um cliente que quer um determinado produto.
Outras coisas:
O software Cylos já está online (na nuvem, gratuitamente) para a criação de um IOU (Devo-te) ou troca de tempo para Madeira. Bliive é um site Português com uma abordagem semelhante, mas não é visível se o seu mercado está sendo muito usada.
A Expomadeira começa agora e se estende por uma semana em Technopolo.

we went to “La Pasta” for the first time, and we decided that is is a good meeting place for the ToBinG Group in the Summer (parking in Rua dos Tanoeiros is free), and we had a small dinner afterwards. The pizza is very good!
D is in contact with the Carpenter E, who should finish the support for the top of the basket. U is after the telephone number of a company that apparently bought some baskets from abroad and is renting them out , but for very high prices. We want to know how they set this up.
Sugar products: U is in touch with S, their Marketing manager is on holiday, after mid-July we can contact them again and see if they would produce the products we are after.
A Sr. J is offering city walks with a guide (not the kind where people rent an audio device and go alone, we seem to have this now as well) but too expensive, and not with a professional website. U should get a call from him, to meet with him and help him set it up better.
D is getting two Wwoofers, student workers who are coming over to work on his organic farm for bed and board. This might also be interesting for other members: http://www.wwoof.com.au/
We had a big discussion about the way we want to go forward with our work.
Some members feel we need more exposure, not to show off but to make people aware that we can provide solutions. One way would be to participate in the upcoming “IGNITE Portugal” discussion on July 12 in the UMA (downtown), and to give out information about our group, mentioning our blog and Facebook group. U will research this IGNITE further.
We could also become a lobbying group to meet with government people, other organizations and newspapers. We could be a catalyst, a force of change on the island. This idea is still fuzzy, it needs to be discussed further.
D was at the cattle fair and met the deputy Agriculture minister. Contrary to what Madeirans do, D told him (in English, then they need to concentrate and listen better) to recognize people like C who went away, got herself a degree, came back and opened a business here, adding value to the island, without getting much support from the Government. The Government guys were quite surprised by this.
U proposed a job description for D as “Pain in the Neck” person, speaking up for others, as the Madeirans bow to Authority and don’t voice their complaint openly, only to each other.
The people have not yet found a way to express their dissatisfaction; Vuvuzelas, apitos, throwing tomatoes…
Another example: staff who lost their jobs and know that the boss invested the money in a restaurant, are afraid to organize a registered demonstration in front of the restaurant, although this would create pressure for the boss to pay them their back salaries.
There is a provision in the Constitution somewhere that citizens can form commissions to demand a report from any government agency about any subject, and the Agency is bound by the Constitution to answer.
Agriculture:
We spoke about the feedback from U (will speak some more next week) and that we can create a rippling effect by including other farmers who can add their land once we have a client who wants a certain product.
Other stuff:
The Cylos software is now online (in the cloud, free of charge) to set up a IOU (I owe you) or time exchange for Madeira. Bliive is a Portuguese site with a similar approach, but it is not visible if their marketplace is being used very much.
The Expomadeira starts now and runs for one week in Technopolo.
Millennium BCP offers credits for small and medium companies for agriculture, fishing, flower producers, tourism, industry and services now. They also offer special conditions for the jobless who want to open a business, and credit letters for export. Maybe the credit crunch is over…

Testes de laboratório:
Discutimos a necessidade de provar a nossa qualidade com testes de laboratório.
V também pode ter testes de laboratório realizados gratuitamente na Áustria, em troca de aceitar estudantes austríacos que são enviados para começar o treinamento em sua Jardiim por algumas semanas.
Falamos sobre a definição de alta qualidade em plantas: Isso não é difícil, pois há livros de referência disponíveis, contendo as quantidades desejadas ea concentração de ingredientes que são necessários para tratar doenças específicas.
U agradeceu Dr. U que ele tomou para si a voar para a Madeira para nos falar, ter tempo para visitar nossas fazendas e que ele está disposto a nos ajudar, o que é realmente ótimo!
